CLARE OLIVER AMBASSADORS

Melanoma touches over 10,000 Australians every year. The Clare Oliver Ambassadors are among them, and are sharing their personal experience of melanoma to increase awareness of the dangers of tanning. Three of the Clare Oliver Ambassadors are profiled below.

If you’ve been touched by melanoma, and are interested in supporting the Clare Oliver Challenge and sharing your story, contact us and register your interest in joining the Clare Oliver Ambassadors.

SYDNEY
Sonya (32) is grateful for her mother noticing a disfigured mole on Sonya’s back during a shopping trip. After removal of the melanoma and several lymph nodes, Sonya’s scarring is significant. Previously a regular solarium user and sunbaker, her experience has made her an anti-tanning advocate. Sonya will be ‘Banning the Tan this summer’ to share her story and help raise funds for research into melanoma.

MELBOURNE
Brendan (23), enjoyed the “naturally tanned look” that he felt made him look healthy.  When a birthmark on his right temple began to change colour, Brendan had no idea that this could be serious.  His girlfriend urged him to have it checked, and it was quickly removed.  Despite this, the melanoma had spread to his lymphatic system.  Brendan says the most challenging aspect of a melanoma diagnosis is dealing with the link between his actions and his diagnosis.  As an Ambassador for the Clare Oliver Challenge, Brendan wants other young people to realise the consequences of tanning and help scientists find better ways to treat this disease.
